Privacy Policy for FamPlanIt
Effective Date: December 12, 2025
Welcome to FamPlanIt! We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application (the “Application”).
Special Note for Families: We have designed specific privacy protections for children. Please review Section 7 (Children’s Privacy) for details on how we handle data for users under the age of 13.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information in two different ways depending on the age of the user:
A. For Adult Users (General Account)
If you are over the relevant age of digital consent (e.g., 13+ or 16+ depending on your region):
- Google Account Information: When you sign in with Google, we collect your email address and display name. We do not store your password.
- Device Data: We collect Push Notification tokens to send you alerts about your household activity.
B. For Child Users (Under 13)
If you are identified as a child during the age verification process:
- No Personal Contact Info: We DO NOT collect your email address, phone number, or real name.
- Anonymous Authentication: You are logged in using an anonymous identifier that does not link to your real-world identity.
- Household Connection: We collect the “Pod Code” you enter to link your device to your family’s specific household.
C. User-Generated Content (All Users)
Regardless of age, we store the content you voluntarily create to share with your Household (“Pod”):
- Shopping lists, to-do lists, and notes.
- Calendar events and meal plans.
- Budget/Expense data.
- Chat messages sent within your Pod.
- Images/Photos you upload to the Pod wall.
- Secure Documents: Digital files you upload to the Secure Document Vault (such as PDF documents, insurance policies, receipts, or images).
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Core Functionality: Allow you to join a “Pod” and sync data (lists, calendars, chats) with other members of that specific Pod.
- Notifications: Send alerts when a family member updates a list or sends a message.
- Security: Verify your access to a specific Pod using PINs and encrypted codes.
- Support & Improvements: Monitor app performance and fix bugs using anonymized crash data.
- Advertising (Adults Only): Serve personalized advertisements to adult users.
- Advertising (Children): Serve only contextual, family-safe advertisements to child users (no behavioral tracking).
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following specific ways:
A. Within Your “Pod” (Household)
This is the core purpose of the app. Any information you post (lists, photos, chats) is shared only with the other members of your specific Pod.
- Walled Garden: Data is NOT visible to the public or users in other Pods.
- Parental Control: For child accounts, only the Parent/Admin of the Pod can add new members. Children cannot invite strangers to view the data.
B. Service Providers
We use third-party services to operate the app. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data:
- Google Firebase: Used for secure database storage, authentication, and crash reporting.
- Google AdMob: Used to display advertisements. (See Section 7 for child-specific ad restrictions).
4. Data Storage and Security
- Encryption: Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest on Google’s Firebase servers.
- End-to-End Encryption (Documents): Files uploaded to the “Secure Document Vault” are protected with an additional layer of encryption using a user-generated PIN. We cannot access, view, or decrypt the contents of these files. You hold the key to decrypt them.
- Access Control: We use strict database security rules to ensure that only members with the correct Pod ID and authentication credentials can read your household’s data.
5. Subscriptions and In-App Purchases
Our Application offers subscriptions and In-App Purchases through Google Play to unlock premium features.
- Payment Processing: We do not collect, store, or have access to your credit card, bank account, or other financial information. All payment transactions are processed securely and directly by the Google Play Store.
- Purchase History: We retain a record of your purchase history (e.g., subscription start date, expiration date, and product ID) associated with your account. We use this data solely to deliver the premium content you have purchased and to restore your purchases if you switch devices.
- Cancellations: You can cancel your subscription at any time through your Google Play account settings.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Deletion and Retention Policies
You have the right to request deletion of your account and personal data:
- Edit/Delete Data: You can delete lists, messages, or photos directly inside the app.
- Leave a Pod: You can leave a household at any time.
- Adults: Can request account deletion via the App Settings or our website. Upon receiving a valid request, we will delete your personal account data (email, name) and disassociate your Pod content from your personal identifier.
- Children: A parent can request the deletion of a child’s data by contacting us or removing the child from the Pod.
Document Storage Retention Policy (Pro Feature)
For documents uploaded to the Secure Document Vault by a Pro subscriber, the following retention rules apply:
- Active Subscriptions: Documents are retained as long as the Pod Admin’s Pro subscription is active.
- Expired Subscriptions: Documents are retained for a grace period of 180 days after subscription expiration.
- Automatic Deletion: After the 180-day grace period, all documents and their associated metadata are automatically and permanently deleted from our servers, without recovery.
- Account Deletion (Pod Admin): If a Pod Admin requests account deletion while their subscription is active or within the 180-day grace period, the documents associated with their Pod will be deleted immediately upon account closure.
7. Children’s Privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K Compliance)
We take extra precautions to protect the privacy of our younger users.
1. Neutral Age Screening
Upon launching the app, users are asked to enter their birth month and year. We do not guide users to select a specific age.
2. No Personal Information Collection
If a user is identified as under 13 (or the relevant age of consent in their country):
- We block the collection of their email address and real name.
- We disable social login features (Google Sign-In).
- The child accesses the app via Firebase Anonymous Authentication.
3. “Walled Garden” Social Features
Children can only interact with members of their approved Household (Pod).
- Children cannot search for other users.
- Children cannot invite new users to the app.
- All sharing is strictly limited to the private family group managed by the Parent.
4. Safe Advertising
We may show advertisements to support the free version of the app. For users identified as children:
- We enable the “Tag for Child Directed Treatment” flag in our ad requests.
- We serve only Contextual Ads (ads based on the app content, not the user’s behavior).
- We do not use trackers or behavioral profiling for advertising purposes.
5. Parental Rights
Parents have the right to review or delete their child’s information. Since we do not collect the child’s email, we identify their data via the Household ID. To request deletion, please contact us at contact@famplanit.com with your Pod ID.
